NOTES TO CLUB SECRETARIES
Ensure you deal promptly with all matters concerning the County Association. The Secretary and her Assistant will be pleased to help at any time.

The Association is governed by the Council. Your Delegate who should be elected at your Club AGM will report information back to your club, and will often bring letters, forms, notices, etc., for you from the Secretary. Make sure that these are dealt with by the dates specified. All your members should be fully aware of and be encouraged to take part in County events such as Patrons' Drives and matches v. Sussex Supporters, Inter-Zone matches for County players, the Annual Dinner & Prizegiving, Competitions, the Tour and Coaching and Marking Courses. If your Delegate is unable to go to a Council meeting, please arrange for another representative from your club to attend.

The County AGM
is held in November. Any member of an affiliated club is welcome, but voting is restricted to two representatives from each club. Clubs may submit propositions, which must be seconded, by 1st October, to the Association. These are discussed fully at the October Council. Your Club AGM should be held between this Council and the Association AGM when your members will hear from your Delegate the views expressed, consider the propositions and nominations, and instruct your representatives on how they wish them to vote.

Annual Returns
for your club will be sent, by post, to you at the beginning of September (N.B. there is no September Council Meeting). Please ensure that they are accurately completed and returned by the due dates. Cheques should be made payable to the "Surrey County Women's Bowling Association" or "S.C.W.B.A."
Many clubs make donations to the Benevolent Fund. Your Delegate can hand these to the Benevolent Secretary at Council meetings. Cheques should be made payable to "Surrey C.W.BA. Benevolent Fund."

The Year Books ordered by your club MUST be collected by your delegate at the April Council Meeting. None will be posted. It is essential for every competitor to have a copy of the Surrey Year Book (and access to the Bowls England Year Book), and it is also extremely useful to all members. Please urge each of your ladies to purchase a copy and support the advertisers there in.

The draw and rules for the County Competitions, including the Champion of Champions, are published in the Year Book. Winners must telephone their results to the appropriate Competition Secretary on the day of play. Names of competitiors entering the two wood singles will be published in the Year Book. The draw will be made on the date at the venue shown by 9.30am. Those players with a first round bye will be expected to mark as will first round losers.

The Association rules on Dress are shown in the Year Book. Please see that your members abide by these rules and are, at all times, i.e. during casual play, club matches, competitions and County events, a credit to your club. County scarves and metal County Badges may be worn by all members of affiliated clubs. Your Delegate can buy these from the County Hon. Treasurer, Mrs. Jackie Taylor, at Council meetings and most County events. The pocket badge and hatband with badge, may only be worn by County "badged" players.

Please encourage your members to support the County by becoming Patrons. They have their own special Drives and a two match against the Sussex Supporters. The fee is £1 annually or £15 for a Life Patron with a reduction to £10.00 for Senior Citizens. For uniform requirements at these events see County By-laws 1.

Bowls England is a Company Limited by guarantee. The Authorised Representative is the County Secretary. She will report back to our Council meetings. Any correspondence which a club may wish to enter into with Bowls England must be through the County Secretary. Every club should purchase at least one copy of the Bowls England year book.

The County will run competitions which culminate in the winners going on to represent Surrey at Leamington in the National Championships and if they are the winners there, represent England in the British Isles Championships held at the same time as the International Series. These are four wood singles, pairs, triples, fours and the 25’s and under singles and pairs. The 2 wood singles, which culminate in the finalists going to represent Surrey in the National Championships will also be run by the County. Forms for these competitions are sent out by the County in September with affiliation forms. When completed they must be returned to the County Secretary on or before the due date together with a cheque made out to Surrey County Women’s Bowling Association or SCWBA.

All other National competitions, the Top Club, 55’s and over singles and pairs, mother and daughter pairs, mixed pairs, mixed fours and champion of champions will be run direct from Bowls England at Worthing. Cards for these will be sent direct to any competitors who have previously entered these competitions – any further forms may be obtained from Bowls England. Entries must be sent, with the fee, direct to Chief Executive, Bowls England at Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 2AZ. Cheques being made payable to Bowls England.

The County will run its own Champion of Champions competition.  In addition, the County will hold an Officers Cup competition.  This is open to lady club secretaries, treasurers, delegates and match secretaries.  Entry forms for these two competitions will be sent out in September with the rest of the affiliation forms.  Champion of champion results should be telephoned to Mrs Maureen Stone on 07982 060042 and Officers Cup results to Mrs Jennifer Asten on 020 8642 7494.  Both these competitions will be run in Zones.
